What is a cosmetic filling?

A cosmetic filling is a type of dental filling used to restore the function, integrity and aesthetics of a tooth that has been damaged by decay or injury.

The three most common types of cosmetic dentistry are:

Benefits of Cosmetic Fillings

A cosmetic filling is a type of dental filling that is used to improve the appearance of a tooth.

Cosmetic fillings are made from materials such as composite, acrylic, resin, or porcelain. They are usually used to fill cavities in teeth that are visible when you smile. Cosmetic fillings can also be used to repair cracked or chipped teeth.

Cosmetic fillings have many benefits

  • They can be matched to the natural color of your teeth so they are less noticeable than amalgam fillings.
  • Composite and acrylic cosmetic fillings do not need to be replaced as often as amalgam fillings, and they will last longer.
  • Porcelain cosmetic fillings are very strong and durable.

If you have a cavity, your dentist may recommend a cosmetic filling. Cosmetic fillings are an excellent way to improve the appearance of your smile.

Types of Cosmetic Fillings

There are different types of cosmetic fillings available to restore teeth. The most common type is a composite resin filling. This is a tooth-colored filling that is made of a mixture of glass and plastic. It is used to fill in cavities in the front teeth.

A silver amalgam filling is a traditional silver filling that is used to fill cavities in the back teeth, such as the molars. It is also used to fill in crowns and veneers.
